METatation

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been woven into the fabric of Manhattan for over 130 years, its majestic structure is home to thousands of years of ARTifacts. This beautiful beast is comprised of countless different wings with an expanse of space for your mind to wander. Amongst the hundreds of priceless works by of Monet and Pissarro hidden away on the second floor lies the Met's newest exhibition: Commes des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.

Rei Kawakubo's radical chic is considered not only avant-garde design, but also art. What she calls "anti-fashion" has made its impact on both the fashion industry and within the creative world. I urge all of you to go and check it out for your selves as the exhibition only runs until September 4th. Just walking into the space I felt a rush of inspiration, not because every piece is a perfect example of design but rather the imperfection behind it all. Exposed seams, irregular shapes, gender neutrality - all coming together to form a ubiquitous feel of thinking outside the box. The starkness of the white walls in contrast with the abrupt garments brings about a different way of thinking, the strangeness of the experience almost challenges the onlooker into a different way of thinking.
